GOODRICH- The Martians varsity wrestling team had their post-season chances quelched early, with a loss to Richmond, however, five grapplers are now headed to the individual state tournament.
Eight Martians went into the regional contest at Yale on Saturday, Feb. 22, only three were defeated, while three boys took second place finishes and two walked away with regional championships.
At the 135 lbs. weight class, Senior Nic Higdon took second place, as did Sophomore Garret Higdon at the 103 lbs. division.
Senior Zach Pyles also placed second in the tournament for the 152 lbs. weight class.
Juniors Jeff O’Mara and Barrett Johnson each pinned down a regional championship in ther respective weight classes.
These boys will move on to the state wrestling tournament, being held at the Palace of Auburn Hills Feb. 6-8.
·Also competing in the state tournament will be Brian Slaght and Rob Balaski of Brandon.
