Four grapplers are heading to the MHSAA Wrestling Individual State Finals at the Palace of Auburn Hills next week.
Tyler Slating (145), Cameron Wilkie (119) and Jake Dionne (130) finished in third place at the MHSAA Wrestling Individual Regional on Saturday at Oxford and Greg Miller (112) finished in fourth place.
Slating beat Carman-Ainsworth’s Lucas Schutt in a major decision, 10-9, to begin the day. He went on to lose against another Cavalier in the next round, Milik Dawkins, 12-3.
Slating came back with a 5-2 win over John Staron from Troy-Athens before moving on to take third place with a 7-4 win over Waterford Mott’s Corbin Moorer.
Wilkie opened the tournament with a 8-6 win over Chase Davis from Port Huron and beat Davis one more time for the third place finish with a 10-0 win.
He lost the next match against Grand Blanc’s Nathanial Fleming, 9-2. He went on to win the next match with a 2-0 win over Oxford’s Collin Campbell.
Dionne also began the day with a win. His was over Port Huron Northern’s Jason Reid, 16-9. He lost to Carman-Ainsworth’s Darien Vaughn, 7-3, before moving on to his next two wins. The wins were over Grand Blanc’s Tyler Butterfield, 9-5; and Stoney Creek’s Aidan Pierobon, 9-5.
Miller had two wins during the day with a pin on Chris Miller from Saginaw-Heritage at 1:23 and a major decision over JT Mullins from Swartz Creek, 10-2. He lost two matches both against Davison with one against Max Johnson, 16-0; and Devon Perez with a fall at 56 seconds.
Nate Troutvine (215) won his first match of the day with a fall over Saginaw-Heritage’s Anthony Whytea at 3:36. He lost the next two matches to finish the season 33-12.
Five Wolves ended the season after two losses at the regional meet. Kyle Masters (140) finishing the season with an overall 25-17 record; Nolan Eriksen (152) with a 34-15 record; Mitchell Nelson (112) with a 14-7 record; Connor Ryan (119) with a 37-10 record; Bret Foltz (125) with 35-13 record.
The boys lost the MHSAA Wrestling Team Regional in the finals against Oxford 45-16 on Wednesday. Posting wins for the Wolves were Wilkie with a fall, 1:42; Foltz, 10-1; Nate Vandermeer (135), 4-0; and Kas Waitkus, 7-6.
The boys won the semifinals over Utica Ford II, 41-25. Winning their matches with pins were Nate Troutvine (215) at 3:30; Ruan (125), 54 seconds; Foltz (130), 2:32; and Slating, 1:48.
Chris Trimmer (285) won his close match with a 8-7 victory as Miller won with a technical fall, 15-0; and Dionne won, 7-2. Wilkie won with a void.
