Nobody should be without a cozy coat during Michigan’s frigid winter months.
That’s why Leonard resident Kathrine Olson is doing her part of make sure no one in her community has to face the icy winds and snow without a warm defense.
She recently organized a donation drive that collected 77 winter coats of all sizes and styles for men, women and children.
‘I just thought there’s people out there who are cold and if we can help them, that would be nice,? Olson said. ‘I think we did pretty good, especially for the first year. There’s lots of nice coats here to keep people warm.?
Folks who need coats for themselves and/or their children, but cannot afford to buy them are welcome to view the selection and take home whatever they require, free of charge.
The coats will be available at the Leonard United Methodist Church, located at 254 E. Elmwood St., on Monday, Jan. 4 and Tuesday, Jan. 5 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Originally, the plan was to hand out the garments last week, but between the lack of publicity and the winter storm, there weren’t any takers on the scheduled distribution days.
As a result, Olson, a member of the church and resident of the village for approximately 35 years, still has plenty of coats to give away.
