Oxford’s Primary contested election results: Supervisor contest, incumbent Robert Clack out polled Barbara Garypie. Trustee Stephen Kaylor defeated Roy Madsen. Township voters approved a proposal establishing an elected parks and recreation commission. But, voters voted against letting the Board buy property without a popular vote.
Addison Township’s Primary contested election results: Dorothy Barnes (D) will face Thomas Patch (R) in November for a trustee seat. Eight ran for this post. Treasurer Donald Hickmott won over challenger Edna Zerwick.
State Representative race: Democrat Alice Tomboulain, Oakland Township, will face James Conlen, Oxford Township, in the fall.
Demolition of the 110-year-old Oxford Methodist Church on East Burdick Street should begin August 14.

The Wildcats extended their undefeated record to 5-0 with a 42-0 win over LakeVille.
Oxford brothers Jason and John Morgan are playing football for Kalamazoo College.
Oxford Wildcat Jimmy Walker won the studentathlete of the month award from the Flint Kiwanis Club. He’s the first Oxford High student to be selected by them for this honor.

A barn owned by Lanny Lanzottie, 860 Lake George Road, was destroyed by fire Friday.
Funding for Comprehensive Employment and Training act (CETA) has been cut, eliminating the Jobs for Teens program. It also cut seven Oxford police officers, five township officers and a dispatcher.
The Gideon Society has the Oxford School Board’s permission to give Bibles to fifth graders in after-school hours.
Oxford golfers won the James Sheridan Memorial Invitation Tourney Saturday in Marlette. Keith Ferrigan, Phil Steele, Brian Francis, Kevin Miller and John Kargetta made the winning numbers.

Oxford and Lake Orion Catholics expressed jubilation at the election of a Polish Pope this week – Pope John Paul II.
Residents of Stringy Lakes in Oxford Township have petitioned the Township Boardd to get a 40 mules an hour speed limit.
Calvin Currier, Oxford School Board trustee, recently established a “Craftsmanship Scholarship Fund” for Oxford students. He started it with a $1,000 gift.
A “trail boss” breakfast and worship service this Sunday will start a “Pony Express” run at Oxford United Methodist Church. Pastor Dave Russell expects 30 horseback riding fund raisers.

Oxford police want to move parades off M-24 because they lack traffic handling manpower. Thanks to volunteers from the Chamber of Commerce and Jaycees the M-24 route will continue.

Four people have registered to seek the Oxford school board seat vacated by Jerry Harvester: Steve Allen, Loretta Bell, Sharon Kline and Ronald Mutch.
The Wildcat soccer team won its ninth straight Flint Metro League title Tuesday. Ron Bucci, Jason Kennedy, Aaron Miller and Matt Green have been named to the All-Flint Metro Soccer Team.
Freshman Christine Freeman is the first Oxford girl to win the Oxford Invitational Cross Country meet. Her time was 20:19.

RLM Industries, 300 Hummer Lake Road, had their 15,000 sq. ft. warehouse destroyed by fire Saturday.
The Oxford Board of Education came out against state wide Proposition H, which if passed, would permit student vouchers.
Jack Whitlow, executive director of Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital, said an auditorium and advanced life support units are features of the hospital’s new facility about to be built in Oxford.
Features of the $250,000 addition to Mt. Grampian on Lakeville Road, will be tennis courts and a bistro with piano bar, fireplaces and rustic cedar interior.

Addison Township firemen will hold a Halloween party for township youngsters October 31.
Donald Shirmer crashed an airplane two miles east of Lakeville Monday afternoon after hitting a power line. His brother, John, was a passenger. Both walked away from the crash.

Former Oxford doctor Gene Fredericks, DO, 64, has been indicted on charges of conspiracy, Medicaid fraud and mail fraud in Flint.
Holly and Steve Kaldor have taken over Farmhouse Bakery in Leonard. Geri Oke has opened Tumbleweed Gift Store. Both are in the building at Elmwood and Rochester Roads.
With their 41-0 win over Mt. Morris the Wildcats won a berth in post season football. They’ll meet Mt. Clemens here Saturday.
Christine Freeman, Oxford High freshman, set an OHS cross country record with a time of 19:55 on the Oxford Hills Golf Course track.

Counterfeit $20 bills were detected this week at Foodtown grocery on S. Lapeer Road.
Harry Rosen Construction is working to complete work in the Village Park on Glaspie St. before the weather changes. They’re concentrating on four of the 40 acres donated by American Aggregates Corp.

John Lister scored Loth touchdowns in the Wildcats 13-6 win over Clarkston Friday.
Goodwill Industries trucks will be in Oxford November 10 to pick up discarded items.
Firemen extinguished a fire at the Mobil Gas Station on S. Washington at Dennison Streets Wednesday. A furnace exploded. Owners Wayland Hallock and Jim Dickerman were both on duty at the time. Dickerman was burned slightly. The station is across the road from the fire station.
The Oxford vs Lake Orion alumni football game will be played November 11. It had been scheduled for Oct. 24. Proceeds go for bleacher seats.
The Lakeville PTA is sponsoring a box social and square dance Friday. All money raised will go toward playground beautification.

Peacemakers, some pre-teen students at Daniel Axford Elementary, are helping settle playground disputes without fighting. The program is in its second year.
Addison property owners will see an increase in their taxes if they are within the boundaries of the Leonard Drain and the Clark Drain areas. It’s to pay for maintenance and inspections.
Leonard is clearing the way to let Curt Strobel reopen the only gas station in town.
Sam Piluras has been named Director of Oxford Township by Oakland County Republicans.
The Oxford Wildcats, 9-0, went into overtime to defeat Mt. Clemens in the first state play-off action of 1993. The Regionals are next week vs. Allen Park.
Christine Freeman broke her own record in a cross country meet in Grand Rapids. The Oxford High freshman’s time was 19:48, seven seconds better than her previous OHS record.

Fire gutted the apartment over Wright’s Grocery in Lakeville.
A band of 15-year-olds used “wrist-rockets” to break car and house windows in Oxford with pellets Tuesday afternoon.
In a competition shoot last week Oxford police officer Jim Flores finished first.
The addition on the south side of Oxford Public Library was opened this week.
In May Boensch Steel bought the former Michigan Bell building on Mechanic Street. It’s been rejuvenated for sales offices.

Oxford’s Common Council gave its approval to the L. H. Cole Oil Co. to construct a building at 40 N. Washington.
The Oxford Chamber of Commerce avoided a near-fatal financial crisis when Jack Harriman and Miss St. Peter of Industrial Machine Products Inc. bailed them out.

Marge Zurlinden, of Leonard, has been appointed Oxford Schools’ official representative on the Oakland Schools Special Education Advisory Committee.
Metamora Golf and Country Club will be auctioned by sealed bids December 2. Owner George Papadelis says he’s doing it for retirement purposes.

The entire student body of Oxford Public Schools has been given vision tests in cooperation with Oakland County Health Department. 503 high schoolers and 518 elementary students were tested.
Claude Wood, 42, Granger Road, was trapped in the rollers of a corn picker for an hour before two passing women heard his cry for help. He lost two fingers. He was treated at Goodrich Hospital.

Billy VanArsdel has all the approvals he needs to build his 32-room Oxford Inn Motel at 823 S. Lapeer Road.
Hunting on any portion of Lakeville Lake is now banned.
Eugene Mallia, of Leonard, was cited for helping save the life of a fellow GM employee. Mallia is also a volunteer Addison fireman.

Delano Road, in Oxford Township, has been appointed a Natural Beauty Road by the Oakland County Road Commission.
A dozen Oxford school buses slid off the roads Wednesday, so Thursday was a school-closed snow day.

James Wiles, Oxford, is among the 150-member Michigan State University marching band headed for California to march in the Rose Bowl parade. They will perform in El Paso, Kansas City and Tuscon enroute. They’ll travel in a 12-car train sponsored by Oldsmobile.
Theme of the state of Michigan’s float in the Rose Bowl parade is “Michigan… Water Wonderland.”
New Years services at Oxford Baptist Church will include films of hunting and fishing in Alaska as well as a film on Christianity.

Mark Dixon has opened “Audio Express” at 7 N. Washington St.
Abigail Miller, Oxford High student, has won first place in the Optimist Club Essay contest. Her subject was “Boundaries of Freedom.”
Oxford Wrangler Wrestling Program hosted 577 kids at Oxford High’s field house Sunday. It’s the largest Youth wrestling program in Michigan.

Oxford Township property taxes for 1978 are the largest in three years. Township supervisor Bob Clack says we should expect taxes to increase the next two years or more.
Bill Tefend, owner of Tefend Motor Sales, says the RV industry is building smaller units, but buyers want bigger RVs.
Two of the area’s oldest multi-line insurance agencies joined operations January 1. Bob Knauf, owner of Hall-Knauf Agency in Oxford, and Eric Allen, owner of Allen Insurance Agency in Lake Orion, will operate under the new name, Community Insurance Center. Richard Laidler is vice-president of the new agency.

Thursday’s ‘first’ snow caused more than seven accidents in Oxford.
Oxford schools finance leader, associate superintendent Richard Megahan is retiring.
Fifth and sixth graders are being moved to Central Smices Building on Pontiac Street next year.
Wayne and Barb Vibbert, of Oxford, have spent seven of the last 16 years on missionary teaching in Burundi, Africa, and they are returning there soon.

On a 5-2 decision the Oxford Board of Education voted to discontinue split sessions next year.
Two of the three names on the Oxford Village Council ballot are incumbents, Joe Bullen and Jane Downing. Jacqueline Wassil is the third name.
Some Oxford school administrators have petitioned the Board of Education to recognize the Administrator’s Association as a bargaining unit. The Board refused. The union can now ask the state to set an election date.
Three Oxford High students will visit Australia this summer with Musical Youth International: Larry Dick, Susan Sherman and Lori Binning.
Janet Kargetta and Jeannette Avenall have been promoted to new posts at Oxford Savings Bank
Oxford Community Development Funds this year will go to sidewalks, $12,000, community center, $5,000, and bike paths, $3,000.

Rick Carver, of Oxford. has been cast as Aramis in Oakland Urtiversity’s production of “Three Musketeers.”
Stuart Feldmann, a 1972 Oxford High grad, has been arrested in Colorado and returned to Michigan. He has been missing for eight years, along with his daughter, who he kidnapped from her mother in Michigan in 1985 during a divorce. Mother and daughter were reunited December 22.
Darwin Parks has been appointed interim Oxford Village Clerk.
In November 1990 the historic Metamora Club on Delano Road burned. The House/Club was built in 1878. A new Metamora Club has been built just south of the former Club.

Nature gave northeast Oakland County its first major snowstorm of the winter Saturday. Eight inches fell.
Oxford officer John Hill struggled to pull a horse from a creek near Drahner Road. It fell through the ice.
Former State Representative Mel Larsen of Oxford will seek the office of chairman of Michigan’s Republican Party.
State and County environmental groups have inspected Oxford schools and say there are no asbestos problems.
Oxford High grad Bruce Biebuyck has been named most valuable player on the Ferris State College 1978 football team by fellow players. The linebacker led the team with 74 tackles, 63 assists, four pass deflections and two interceptions.
Dolores B. Fleig is Lakeville’s new postmaster.

Gov. G. Mennen Williams came to Oxford Wednesday to speak at the annual meeting of Oxford Coop Elevator. He presented a 9-point plan for aiding Michigan farmers.
Bill Jarrett’s injury in the Wildcat basketball game with Rochester was serious enough that the coaches stopped play with four minutes to play. He was taken to Pontiac General Hospital and released Tuesday.
The Oxford Rotary Club observed their 15th anniversary at Kingsley Inn Tuesday.
Graham Bodwell says he’s discontinuing his appliance and auto accessory business at 21 S. Washington Street.

A survey by Western Michigan University asked eighth, tenth and twelfth graders in Oxford about their drug use and attitude. They generally don’t feel occasional drug experimentation is dangerous.
Two incumbent Oxford councilmen have decided to not seek re-election: John DuVal and Tom Loney. That pits four for the two seats: Sue Bossardet, Kerry Horton, Phyllis Fairbairn and Geneve Seeds in the March 14 election.
The first handful of tenants leave moved into the brand new HOPE senior citizen apartments on W. Drahner Road.
Andrea Roman was the only Oxford High student to make it to the State Honors Choir this year.
Lynn Korneffel of Lynne’s Hallmark is the new president of the Oxford Chamber of Commerce.
A Circuit Court ruling allows Curtis Wright Development to build 100 single family homes and 27 holes of golf on his 336 acres on the SW corner of Lake George and Lakeville Roads.

Lunches for Oxford students will go up a nickel and faculty will pay 20 cents more.
There are four candidates for three positions on Leonard Village Council: Elmer Powell, Janet Ostrander, William Wagner and John Gorss.
John Voorheis, PhD, has been assigned to oversee planning for Washington Street School.

Bill Patterson bought VanWagoner Drug Store in downtown Oxford 30 years ago. This week he retired. His son-in-law and pharmacist Tim Davidson will continue the business.
This week two long-time, active and well-known Oxford businessmen died: former Oxford village president Al Valentine and former Tunstead Hardware owner Ralph VanWagoner.
Cindy Morgan of Leonard has been elected 1994 White Cane Week Queen by the Lions Clubs of Michigan.

The Michigan Association of School Administrators recognized Oxford’s former superintendent of schools Roger Oberg, for his distinguished service.

The Father and Son banquet at Oxford Methodist Church had the largest attendance in history, 148. Methodist Men sponsored it.
Addison firemen fought for eight hours Sunday night but couldn’t save a large barn on the Elmer Frick farm on Frick Road. Herman Weigold, Jr. operated the farm. Among the losses were 70 hogs.
The following Oxford High musicians won the highest ratings at the Southeast Michigan Solo and Ensemble Festival Saturday: Marion McTavish, Robert Wiles, Richard Geisler, Mary Jo Meads, Joyce Eberstein, Janice Langley, Kay LaDouceur and David Rogers.

For the first time in modern memory there’s going to be a primary election in Leonard. Eugene ‘Geno’ Mallia and Connie Sutherby will face off, with the winner getting the president’s post.
In the Oxford High Winterfest court for 1994 are Tami Constable, Jenny Bongiorno, Katie Courtright, Lori Bossardet, Theresa Johnson, Jennifer Parkhill, Stephanie Fahy, Christie Langley, Jeff Cardona, Jeff Wood, JW Ruff, Nate Wolosiewicz, Jason Kennedy, Dave Bertolini, Brett Asplund and Brian Hyttinen. The Oxford Board of Education approved the hiring of James Gray as superintendent of schools when they agreed to his $37,000 annual contract.
Klaas deBoer, organizer of the Oxford-Onion Soccer League, said about 250 kids attended the league organizational meeting.
Mark Cole and Tammy Gingell both were shocked when they were selected as Oxford High’s Snow King and Snow Queen.
With the discontinuence of split sessions next fall there may be a need of up to six portable classrooms, says Junior High Principal Larry Ferrigan.

When Leonard Village councilmen turned down the firemen’s request to expand the administrative board from three to seven, emergency medical technician Bill Millerd quit.
Mickelson Corp, an Oxford gravel mining firm, supplied a second “impact” sudy with their request for gravel zoning of 330 acres west of Ludwig, between Davison Lake Road and Oakwood Road.
Former State Representative Mel Larsen (R-Oxford) was unanimously elected Michigan Republican Party chairman Saturday. Some 1,500 supporters greeted him at the convention.
Robert Jarski, a 1965 Oxford High graduate, has accepted the position of Assistant Professor and Academic Coordinator with Emory University School of Medicine Physician Associate Program in Atlanta, Georgia.
Kevin Marsee, 14, Oakwood Road, Oxford High freshman, received an award from United Fund at their benefit show. He also holds first chair trumpet in the OHS varsity band.
Fire gutted the John Feldman home on Lafayette Street last week.

Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Flumerfelt have purchased the residence of the late Dr. Bachelor on N. Washington in preparation to opening a funeral home.

Three businesses on the southwest corner of M-24 and Drahner Rd. are being billed for $300,000 by the Department of Natural Resources. To avoid paying the charges, the three have to prove the groundwater contaminates came from off their property.
Oxford High’s Odyssey of the Mind team was named regional champs. 100 teams took part. The challenge was to design and construct a minimum of three devices that will play a tune. Team members are Jennifer Dopirak, Tricia Weber, Kerri Linto, Katie Czarnowski, Erica Westley and Meredith Parkhill.
Debbie Stout has been named principal of the new, yet unnamed middle school.
Vernita “Red” Voikos, owner of Rob’s Place, has been named Citizen of the Year by the Oxford Chamber of Commerce.

Jack Leach, 9 Center Street, went to mail some letters about noon Monday. He then stopped for a cup of coffee at Aunt Annie’s Restaurant. During that 15 minutes or so his house caught fire.
At the District Solo and Ensemble Festival Saturday the following students received 1st Division ratings: Mitch Gruenberg, Lori Stephens, Chris Robbins, Denette Derby, Dawn Houck, Denise Angeloff, Marty Gagnier, Peggy Nash and Beth Ann Howes.
American Aggregates Corp., a pioneer in land reclamation, has been recognized by Oakland County Soil & Water Conservation District as the area’s outstanding developer for 1978.
The Oxford American Legion expects to break ground in May for a Post Headquarters on East Drahner Road, says Maxwell Jones, Legion Building Chairman.

Oxford Village Manager Darwin Parks has recommended some changes for Council consideration, like eliminate the assistant manager position and part-time clerk, Village manager take on planning and zoning work for an additional $2,331 a year and give deputy clerk the title of finance director and a raise of $5.500.
The Lade Wildcats volleyball team defeated Brandon and Detroit Country Day to win the district title.

Area gasoline stations are facing shortages of supply. Distributors are cutting supplies twenty percent.
Texaco, Inc. is pulling out of Michigan. Local Texaco owners, John Heric, 66 N. Washington and J. D. Wright, Lakeville, say they aren’t worried because they own their stations.
Oxford’s old water tower on N. Washington is gone and the 50 x 50 ft. property returned to neighbors, as was the original agreement.

Six Years ago George Black, of Oxford, ran in the Boston Marathon, finishing in three hours and 52 minutes. Winning time is just over two hours. Then he was 16. He’s going back for another try this year.
Oxford will be able to send seven freshmen to a new science-math academy in Clarkston as soon as the curriculum is ready.

The lights went out in northeast Oakland county Thursday evening. Addison’s planning commmission meeting went dark, as did Oxford Twin Cinema and Oxford High’s school play facility. Sixty-five mile an hour winds snapped limbs and power lines. Many merchants tried to stay open.
Addison township has resigned with Oakland County for police protecdtion.
Incumbent school board member Cal Currier will be opposed by James Tichenor for the one seat in the June 11 election.
Dr. John Voorheis has been appointed principal of both the Washington Street School and Thomas. Ellen DeLater has been named to replace Ben Tomczak as Leonard’s principal.
Connie Seavey, of Leonard, has been appointed Leonard Postmaster, filling a vacancy caused by the retirement of Shirley Patterson.
Jeanne Thompson, 13, won The Detroit News Regional Spelling Bee in Brandon last week. She is a student at Oxford Middle School.

Teresa McCarberry is the new school board president. Tom Middleton is vice-president.
A fire at Lake Orion Lumber has been ruled an arson.
President Ronald Reagan visited Orion Township this week, giving a speech at the GM Orion plant.

Mr and Mrs John Shirmir, their six children and two other adults, were saved by their pet dog when it awoke them at 4:40 a.m. while their house was burning. They lived on Rochester Road, Leonard.

Child Care (Toddler, pre-school and latch-key) has been re-assigned to three locations, Central Office Building, Daniel Axford and Clear Lake, and Oxford 5th and 6th graders moved into Oxford Intermediate School.
Oxford veterinarian Catherine Theisen has won $1,000 in a writing contest sponsored by Veterinarian Economics. The Michigan State grad wrote about changing her new office management.
Dave Gilbert and John Londers won their flights in Oxford Hills Junior Golf Tournament.
Randy Bellestri moved his Odyssey, Inc. unto the former Sea Ray Boat facility in May. They make airplane parts.

Rod Woodworth has made many motorcycle jumps, but his attempt to jump 12 cars at his Noble Road property ended a half car short. Woodworth wasn’t injured.

Two men shot their way into a 52-year-old man’s apartment and confronted him in his bedroom, but left when they found no “box.” They left with $200 in bonds.
An Oxford man suspected of sexually abusing a 9-year-old boy was found dead in his Thomas Road apartment. Police believe he died of natural causes.
Tim Caudill, 14, of Oxford, is so talented on drums he won an American Guild of Music competition.

Two Oxford teenagers were killed in holiday accidents. Keith Ferrigan was a passenger in a car that crashed on M-24 south of the Clarkston intersection in Lake Orion. Eric Anderson, 17, died in a single car crash in Addison township on Lake George Road.

At the annual Honors Conference for Oxford High students the following are scholarship winners and their school: Marilyn Taylor and Joan Warnke, Michigan State, Barbara Tubbs, Central Michigan, Roger Frenthaway, Michigan College of Mines and Engineering.

Oxford High’s 4 x 100 relay team (Jennifer Parkhill, Katie Tembusch, Stephanie Fahy and Kim Cabic) qualified for the state meet. Jamie Penrod (shotput), Bhree Nagel (long jump and hurdles) and Christine Freeman (distance runner) also qualified for the state.
The teaching of German language in Oxford High has been dropped by the Board of Education on recommendations of the administration. Spanish will replace it next fall.
The Oxford High Choralairs earned a superior rating in a festival in Toronto. They also won first place in women’s choir competition.

A federal jury awarded an Oxford man, Glen Ray Hatfield, Jr., $1.25 million in connection with a police beating he suffered four years ago.
Teachers and officials are pushing for a special class for drop-out students. They have a $5,000 grant to get started.
Vandals extensively damaged the inside of the old DPW building at 85 Glaspie St.
The hearing of Michael Kilbourne of Division St., who faces an open charge of murder in connection with the slaying of Michael Szabo, Jr., 16, was set for Wednesday. The hearing is in Romeo District Court.
Oxford resident Sgt. William Beane of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department has been named officer of the year for his work in the corrections department.

Memorial Day the Oxford Veterans Memorial Building, 28 N. Washington St., will be dedicated. Many pieces of military equipment will be shown at the event including hugh tanks, anti-aircraft guns, machine guns, modern infantry rifles, rocket guns, trucks, Jeeps and more. The Association was started in 1946. Bob Clack was the first president. Judge W. McKay Skillman, a native of Oxford, will speak at the dedication.
Tom Humphries is converting his auto sales location, 44 S. Washington St., next to the theater, into a dry cleaning business. He’ll have pick up and delivery service and give Holden Red Trading Stamps.
The National Safety Council has issued a warning about discarding ice boxes with the doors on.

Leader publisher Jim Sherman, Sr. and two Los Angeles reporters interviewed Lee A. Iacocca, president and CEO of Chrysler Corporation in his office Friday. Among his quotes were: “The future is terrific, supurb!” “I’m a GM watcher. Was then. Am now.” “We have a monstrous front wheel-drive program for 1981.” Iacocca took the reins at Chrysler six months ago, after being fired by Ford.
Choir director Michael Yackanin is directing the juniors and seniors in the musical “Anything Goes.” Jim Tichenor, Mike Yachanin, Jana Ferguson, Denise Poulson, Rick Carver and Tim Comparoni are some of the cast.
Oxford Township has agreed to provide sewers to the restaurant north of Oxford, American Aggregates and Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital.
Oxford High has co-valedictorians for 1977-78, G. Neil Haven and Lawrence Dick. Theresa Hall is salutatorian.

A car driven by Mark Shifman, 20, smashed in the Robert Schooltz garage on Tanview. The force pushed the Schooltz car through the back wall.

The Addison Township woman accused of stabbing her husband and two children has been ordered to undergo psychiatric tests.
A 10-person committee has taken steps toward creating a district library for Oxford and Addison Townships.
Fourth and fifth graders in Oxford were asked to name the new elementary school in Oxford. Six students submitted Oxford Intermediate School, and the School Board agreed with them.
About 50 Oxford residents cleared roadsides all across the area Saturday. They filled four 30-yard containers with metal.

The body of the Oxford boy, 16-year-old Michael Szabo, Jr. was found Saturday in a heavily wooded area near Romeo. The Oxford High junior was shot and stabbed. A 19-year-old Leonard man is facing a murder charge. Police see no motive.
Dave Hollis, the 1975 and 1976 amateur state motocross champion, has turned pro. The 18-year-old Oxford man competes in the Pontiac Silverdome this weekend.
Koenig Fuel and Supply’s dredge sank in the lake adjoining Lakeville Road Wednesday. Supt. Jesse Hoover said, “We’ll have to get it off the lake bottom to find the cause.”

Lakeville School students were taken to Leonard School Friday for a baseball game. Lakeville won, 21-13.

An Oxford Township trustee and some residents have suggested Township Attorney Gary Rentrop may have a conflict of interest at representing both the Township and American Aggregates Corporation.

The 1979-80 Oxford Schools budget of $6.34 million, up six percent, was approved Tuesday.
Oxford Music Club sponsored an appearance of the Michigan State University Singing Statesmen. Three of the singers are Fletcher Spears, Brad Buchanan and Tim Kroninger of Oxford.
Oxford Village will replace a 2-year-old fence at the Village Park with hedge. Manager Arrowsmith said the fence was repeatedly vandalized.
The new steeple on Brethren In Christ Church in Leonard was dedicated Sunday.

Three men were killed instantly in a head-on crash on M-24 near Stony Lake Friday. None are from Oxford. One car was attempting to pass a truck and hit the oncoming car.
For Mayor’s Day in Michigan Week Eldon Johnson of Lakeview, will exchange with Oxford president Ted Pearson, Jr.
Oxford High school Band under the direction of Gordon Mathie recieved a First, or superior, rating at the state band festival in East Lansing.
Of the over million elm trees inspected in Michigan this year only 1,218 were infected with Dutch Elm Disease. The first infections in the state were found in 1950, according to the State Dept of Agriculture.
