The Oxford Township Board last week voted 4-3 to re-appoint George Black to the planning commission, with a term to expire Dec. 31, 2006.
Black has served on the planning commission for 20 years. His re-appointment originally failed in 3-2 and 3-3 township board votes in December and January.
Supervisor Bill Dunn kept bringing back the issue of Black’s re-appointment, saying he would continue to do so until he got either four ‘yes’ or four ‘no’ votes from a full township board.
Trustee Jerry Dywasuk explained that his consistent, vocal opposition to Black’s re-appointment was based solely on disagreements with the planning commissioner’s previous decisions and opinions. “I personally like Mr. Black,” Dywasuk said. “But I would like to see someone who’s going to be a little more protective of our Master Plan.”
Dywasuk noted that Dunn was appointed supervisor by a 3-2 vote of the board in June 1999, even though at the time, Trustee Pat Fitchena wanted to table the vote until a full board was present.
