GHS softball routs Durand to continue GAC dominance

Goodrich’s varsity softball team is continuing to make life difficult for their Genesee Area Conference foes.
In their most recent action May 1 against Durand, the Martians won both ends of a twin bill, taking the opener 13-2 and the nightcap 12-2, with the latter game lasting five innings. The Blackhawks are now 17-2-1 on the season.
Kelsey Krych lit up the basepaths for the Martians in the opener with four hits (including a double) and three stolen bases. Tara Garman drove in four runs and had three hits (including a double), while Alyssa Bertrand had two doubles in the game.
Autumn Haggadone added a hit, two stolen bases and two RBI for the Martians, while Megan Smith was the winning pitcher, allowing six hits and striking out five.
Jenni Brothers had a solid all-around game for the Martians in the nightcap, garnering three hits, two stolen bases and two RBI. Kortni Elsworth contributed two hits (including a triple) and two RBI.
Tori Morgan was the game’s winning pitcher, allowing only two hits while striking out nine. She also had three hits (including a double), one stolen base and one RBI.
The Goodrich bats were also on display April 27 in a doubleheader against Mt. Morris, as the Martians won the opener 16-1 and the nightcap 18-2.
Krych had two hits and two stolen bases in the nightcap, while Garman had two hits (including a triple) and two RBI Smith added two hits (including a double) and a stolen base and Sydney Mahalak had two hits (including a double) and a stolen base.
Morgan once again helped the team both on the mound and at the plate. She struck out four and allowed only two hits, and notched two hits (including a triple) and two RBI at the plate.
In the nightcap, Garman notched three hits and two RBI, while Bertrand had one hit and three stolen bases and Elsworth notched three hits (including a double), two stolen bases and an RBI.
On Monday, May 24, the Martians defeated Bentley 9-4 and 13-1. In the first game, Mahalak had three hits (including a double), while Garman contributed three hits (including a double and a triple) and three RBI and Bertrand hit a grand slam home run.
Smith struck out five to pick up the win for the Martians.
In the nightcap, Courtney Brejnak notched two hits and a stolen base for the Martians, while Mahalak added two hits, two stolen bases and an RBI. Morgan was the game’s winning pitcher, allowing two hits and striking out three, and also had a single for the Martians.
