At press time, a 2-year-old Oxford girl was reported to be in critical condition at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital after nearly drowning in a lake near her home Wednesday morning.
Emily Borst was found face down in the water outside her home on Fountain Crescent in the Waterstone subdivision at about 9:19 a.m.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Dept., the little girl had wandered outside while her mother was speaking on the telephone. When the mother found her daughter, she started screaming.
Fortunately, Oxford firefighters Ron Jahlas and Brian Bank were nearby working on a home, when they heard the mother’s screams.
The pair immediately rushed over and began administering mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and CPR. They were able to regain Borst’s pulse. She was transported to POH in Pontiac and then to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital, where she was reported to be in critical condition at press time.
Sheriff’s Deputy Guy Hubble said the Oxford Fire Dept. did an ‘awesome job? and deserves to be commended for their heroic efforts.
