The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of fraud on Ridgeview Circle on Nov. 25.
According to an OCSD report, a 49-year-old woman received an e-mail from someone claiming to be the mother of a boy her 16-year-old daughter was friends with. She said the letter concerned issues with her daughter and the boy, and that she responded to the writer because of the “alarming material” in the e-mail.
When the woman showed the e-mail to her daughter, her daughter said nothing in it was true, and that the writer had used the wrong first name for the boy’s mother and spelled the last name incorrectly. The boy claimed he didn’t know anything about the e-mail. The girl thought maybe one of his friends had written it.
