Girls ski to wins

The Lake Orion varsity girls ski team competed against Rochester Adams and Rochester on Jan. 19 at Pine Knob, defeating both teams 21-62 and 22-58, respectively.
In the slalom, Orion’s Kristen Fleming finished first (49.69), and teammate Jessica Hutchison was second (51.2).
Katelyn Rivers finished in third (51.98), while Rachel Brown was fifth (54.31).
In the giant slalom, Hutchison was first (39.52), Fleming second (39.57), and Rivers third (39.71).
Orion’s Meaghan Walters was fourth (40.80), and teammate Lacy Phillips was fifth (40.96).
The boys team were defeated, 30-46, by Adams, and won against Rochester, 35-43.
Orion’s James Hubbard was third in the slalom (45.97), while teammate Kevin Bowen was fifth (48.32).
In the giant slalom, Marty Tarr was third for Orion (37.92), and Bowen was fourth (38.07).
Scott Arsen finished fifth (38.65).
Both teams ski on Thursday at Pine Knob in the giant slalom, and travel to the Traverse City Invitational for the giant slalom and slalom events at Schuss Mountain on Jan. 31.
The MHSAA Class A state finals are set for Feb. 28 at Boyne Mountain.
