Girls volleyball season ends to the Wolves

Despite a great season, the Lake Orion volleyball team could not overcome the challenge posed by Clarkston and fell in the district final to the Wolves last week.
The Dragons set a school record with a 59-11-2 record and were ranked fourth in the state. There also were several other team records set this season.
The Dragons proved they have one of the top teams in the state. They only need to get over the hump that has been Clarkston for the past few years.
The Wolves won in straight sets, 25-22, 25-11 and 25-14 to advance.
The Dragons have beaten the Wolves during regular season play but not in the playoffs. Clarkston has won eight consecutive district championships.
It’s unfortunate that the teams face each other in district action because both are among the top teams in the state and can potentially compete for top honors.
It marks the third consecutive season that Clarkston has ousted Lake Orion in the districts. It also marked the fifth time in six seasons that the two have faced each other in the postseason.
Lake Orion beat Carkston in the 2011 state semifinals, while Clarkston ousted Lake Orion in district play in 2012 -2014.
Coach Tony Scavarda said the loss was disappointing.
‘We uncharacteristically made a lot of unforced errors. It was a tough way to end the season.?
As far as some of the records, senior captains Hannah Murdock set school records in the number of kills and Nicole Wehner set new standards for the number of assists. Koreen Varney registered 28 digs for the Dragons against Clarkston.
