The Orion Veteran’s Memorial has received a $10,000 grant from General Motors? Foundation to make some improvements to the memorial, which is expected to include an electric sign to announce upcoming events at the facility.
Veteran’s Memorial board members Dr. Joseph Mastromateo and Jim Hubbard accepted the donation recently at the GM Orion Assembly plant as part of $50,000 in local grants announced by the GM Foundation as part of their Plant City Grants.
Other $10,000 grants were given to Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan, Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency, CARE house of Oakland county and the Clinton River Watershed Council.
‘This year, the GM Foundation is providing $1.6 million to nearly 200 organizations in 45 plant cities where GM employees live and work,? said GM Foundation vice president Lori Wingerter. ‘Through the Plant City grants initiative, we’re helping our neighbors in Lake Orion and Pontiac, as well as those in communities across the country, continue to receive critical services from vital nonprofit organizations.?
Hubbard said the funds may be used to install an electric sign at the memorial to let residents know of upcoming events and to remind them of other important dates and activities related to veterans and other local issues.
The facility is located at the corner of M-24 and Odanah Street. It has several attractions and hosts local residents and veterans who go there to remember the men and women from the community who have served in wars from the Civil War to the present.
