The Oxford Varsity Golf team continued its recent success this week, defeating the Brandon Blackhawks in their final dual meet of the season, finishing with a record of 4-2. The Wildcats also golfed in two tournaments this week, the Oakland County Invitational and the Flint Metro League Tournament, finishing 13th and 5th, respectively.
The Wildcats beat the Brandon Blackhawks in a make-up meet on Wednesday, by a final score of 160-176, putting the Cats dual record at 4-2 to finish the season. For the Wildcats, Aaron Bruce was once again the medallist, shooting a 38 for the day. Other Oxford golfers Scott Hyder and Bryan Mattack finished with 39 each.
On Sept. 29, the Wildcats golfed in the Oakland County Invitational at the Pontiac Country Club, which features the best teams in the county, and finished 13th out of 24 teams in Division 1 with a final score of 331. Oxford Senior Aaron Bruce shot a 74, which was good enough for fourth place out of over 100 golfers. Bruce is having a spectacular season for the Cats, and has been the medallist for the Cats in numerous meets this year.
In the Flint-Metro League Tournament, played at Sugarbush in Davison on Oct. 6, Oxford finish 5th out of seven teams in the FML. Oxford’s golfers shot a total of 364 for 18 holes, and the best round by any Wildcat was Scott Hyder, with a score of 87. Lapeer West won the tournament, finishing with a final score of 339, to beat the next closest team, the Fenton Tigers, by seven strokes.
With all of the dual meets completed, the Lapeer West Panthers took home the division title, unseating the Wildcats, who have won the league for the past two years in a row. The final league standings are as follows: 1st, Lapeer West; 2nd, Fenton; 3rd, Linden; 4th, Oxford; 5th, Holly; 6th, Lapeer East; 7th, Brandon.
Oxford will play in the MHSAA Regionals on Oct 9 to finish their season.
