Goliath no big deal

Goliath was the ominous name given to the severe winter storm that hit parts of the United States Monday, but the portion of it that blew through the Oxford area was by no means a giant of biblical proportions.
Sure, there was some snow, lots of sleet, wind gusts of 35 to 45 miles per hour and icy road conditions, but all in all, things were pretty uneventful, according to local officials.
‘We got lucky as heck,? said Addison Fire Chief Jerry Morawski. ‘We had not one single call. We were all prepped and ready to go. We had our dress on, but no wedding to go to. That’s a good thing.?
‘We had one downed wire on S. Coats (Road) and that was it,? said Oxford Fire Chief Pete Scholz. ‘We got lucky.?
‘It was all quiet,? said Oakland County Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Patterson, commander of the Oxford Twp. substation. ‘I didn’t hear anything on the radio.?
It appears many folks heeded the winter storm warnings and stayed off the roads.
‘Traffic was extremely light (Monday) afternoon,? Scholz said. ‘I went up to Meijer at about 5:30 p.m. and the place was like a ghost town.?
Early Tuesday morning, DTE Energy’s on-line map depicting power outages showed none in the Addison/Leonard area and only two in Oxford.
