Goodrich boys, girls track teams nab first at relays

Goodrich’s track teams were not intimidated when they headed to the home of a Genesee Area Conference rival April 3.
Both the Goodrich boys and girls track teams won first place at the Blue Devil Relays that day at Lake Fenton As the name suggests, all events were contested under a relay format.
The Martian boys team earned 91 points at the relays to win the event, while host Lake Fenton and Almont each tied with 64. Bendle finished third with 58, followed by Gabriel Richard with 51 and Bentley with 32.
Goodrich was catapulted to their first place overall finish by winning first place in five different events at the relays:
? Discus ? Jeff O’Mara and Barrett Johnson (213?9?).
‘Shuttle hurdles ? Charlie Richards, Andrew Benson, Wayne Coulman, and Ben Richards (1:09.33).
‘Shot put ? Johnson and O’Mara (80?8?).
?4 x 200 ? Matt Hill, Coulman, Jeff Decator, and Kirk Elsworth (1:35.4).
‘Pole vault ? O’Mara and Lance Keene (19?6?).
The Martians earned second place finishes in the long jump (35?6-1/4?) and the 400 meters (45.76), and third place finishes in the high jump (5?5?) and the 4 x 400 relay (3:53).
Like the boys team, the Goodrich girls team put together a winning effort, leading the pack with 96 points. Almont finished second with 79 points, while Bentley was third with 66. Gabriel Richard (45) and Macomb Lutheran Northwest (40) rounded out the top five.
The Martian girls captured six events on their way to winning the relays:
‘Middle distance ? Samantha Minkler, Kelsey Meyers, Janee Jones and Kayla O’Mara (7:05.8).
‘Shuttle hurdles team ? Michelle Elliott, Alison Rariden, Paige Plant, and Melissa Luttrell.
?3200 meters ? O’Mara, Minkler, Meyers, and Jones (10:09.27).
‘Discus ? Andrea Howell and Jacqui Cornwell (181?2?).
‘Distance medley ? Meyers, Jones, O’Mara, and Minkler (13:20.36).
?1600 meter relays ? Plant, Meyers, Minkler, and O’Mara (4:31.3).
In addition, the Martians earned second place finishes in the shot put (56?11-1-2?), pole vault (5?6?), 800 meters (1:57.05), and sprint medley (3:21.18).
