Goodrich girls cagers gearing for home stretch in GAC

Despite a 53-37 loss to Grand Blanc Oct. 28, the Goodrich girls basketball squad is in good shape as the regular season winds down.
The Martians are guaranteed at least a share of the Genesee Area Conference Red Division title, and still sport a strong 12-3 season record despite the loss.
Host Grand Blanc outscored Goodrich 17-6 in the second quarter of their Oct. 28 contest to take command of the game. Maribeth Barns led the Martians with 10 points.
The Oct. 23 win against Bentley improved Goodrich to 10-1 in the GAC Red, clinching a share of the league title.
Goodrich got off to a good start, outscoring Bentley 13-5 in the first quarter and holding off the Bulldogs the rest of the way.
The Martians? Nykole Pfaff converted six three-point shots on her way to a career-high 20 points, including 16 in the second half. Jacci Brothers added 13 points for Goodrich, while Michelle Elliott contributed eight.
Goodrich has five games, including their Oct. 30 game at Lake, remaining in the regular season. Coach Jason Gray said he hopes the Martians can finish strong in hopes of making a playoff push similar to last season, where they made the regional finals before losing to Flint Powers.
‘Right now, we’re guaranteed a share of the league title, so winning it outright is one of our goals for the rest of the season,? he said. ‘We also want to prepare for the state tournament so we can make another strong run.?
The Martians return to action Nov. 4 when they travel to Byron.
