Goodrich girls harriers capture league championship; boys place fourth

Goodrich’s varsity girls cross country team added yet another trophy to its hardware collection Oct. 20.
The Martians decisively won the Genesee Area Conference meet that day, compiling a team score of 18 points, well ahead of second-place Byron (81). New Lothrop finished third (95) and Montrose fourth (114).
Goodrich runners were well-represented among the top 10 placers. Even though Coach Jennifer Sweet said Kayla O’Mara did not run that day due to illness, the Martians still had the top four finishers at the meet.
Kaitlin O’Mara led all individual competitors by finishing in 19:06, followed by Kelsey Meyers (19:37), Mary Haiderer (19:38) and Kelsey Krych (19:59).
Sam Minkler (eighth, 21:13) and Laura Haiderer (10th, 21:26) were the other Goodrich runners to place in the top ten.
Meanwhile, the Goodrich varsity boys cross country team finished in the upper half of teams at the league meet, finishing fourth with a team score of 114.
Lake Fenton placed first (53 points), followed by Montrose (71) and New Lothrop (108).
Jeremy Gauthier was the leading Martian boys competitor, finishing ninth among all individual runners (18:32), while Ryan Warner placed 16th (19:17) and Billy Feldmann 20th (19:43).
