The Goodrich varsity wrestling team scored a pair of key victories in Genesee Area Conference action Jan. 12.
The host Martians eamed a 64-12 win against Bentley and a 56-21 win against Lake Fenton.
Against Bentley, the Martians started out with two forefit wins by Dustin Brooks (160) and Erik Fernelius (171) before Kyle Fletcher (189) earned a 14-5 decision against Mike Gear.
Bentley would earn their only points of the game on two forfeit wins. However, Goodrich quickly rebounded with forfeit wins by Mark Weber (103) and Garrett Higdon (112) before Jason Fischer (119) pinned Ryan Caron in 3:03.
The Martians started off a little more slowly against Lake Fenton, dropping their first two matches before Fletcher (189) pinned Jake Vance in 54 seconds.
However, Lake Fenton won their next two matches by forfeit to take a 21-6 lead. The Blue Devils, though, would not win any more matches the rest of the meet, as the Martians won eight straight matches to earn the win against Lake Fenton.
