Goodrich netters ousted by Linden

The Goodrich volleyball team’s season ended at the hands of eventual district champion Linden.
After defeating Flint Southwestern Academy in three games, 13-15, 15-8, 15-5, the Martians lost to Linden 9-15, 15-12, 10-15 in the district semifinals March 6 at Goodrich.
‘It was a good performance by the team,? Goodrich coach Richard Sirna said. ‘Everyone at districts came to play. The girls never quit and played as hard as they could. The better team won (referring to Linden).?
Goodrich finished the season 18-23-3 overall and 10-6 in Genesee Area Conference Red Division play, good for third place in the division.
The following Martians contributed in district action:
‘Tara Garman: 17-22 serving, four aces, 24 digs, 17-18 passing, 43-48 attacking, 25 kills, eight blocks.
‘Marissa Misura: five digs, 4-4 passing, 28-31 attacking, 13 kills, 13 blocks.
‘Betsy Seymour: 13-14 serving, two aces, 21 digs, 11-12 passing, 37-43 attacking, eight kills, two blocks.
‘Julie Owen: 25-28 serving, four aces, 30 digs, 10-12 passing, 4-4 attacking, one kill, 123-127 setting, 25 assists.
‘Alyssa Bertrand: 27-27 serving, five aces, 16 digs, 7-9 passing, 66-68 setting, 28 assists.
‘Denica Brooks: 15-15 serving, one ace, 22 digs, 17-18 passing.
‘Erika Staten: 14 digs, 10-14 passing, 29-34 attacking, seven kills.
‘Ellen Nothhelfer: 5-7 serving, one ace, 13 digs, 8-9 passing, 2-2 attacking, one kill.
‘Jessica Morgan: 19-22 serving, two aces, 13 digs, 5-6 passing.
‘Jessica March: 6-6 attacking, three kills, 21-22 setting, four assists.
Four Martians made it to the All-GAC Red Division team. Garman was named to the first team, while Seymour made the second team, and Owen and Bertrand earned honorable mention.
The Martians will lose five seniors to graduation: Seymour, Brooks, March, Misura and Lauren Heidenberger.
‘All those seniors will be missed next year,? Sirna said. ‘I don’t know who will step up and fill their spots.?
