Goodrich nine continues winning ways against Fenton

Goodrich’s baseball team continues to establish itself as a dominant team in the Genesee Area Conference Red Division.
The Martians swept a May 2 doubleheader against Lake Fenton, routing the Blue Devils 21-2 in the opener, and taking the nightcap 6-3. Goodrich is now 16-0 overall and 7-0 in league play.
The first game featured an offensive barrage from the Martians, who scored in each of the game’s five innings, highlighted by six runs each in the second and fifth innings.
Four Martians ? Matt Hughes, Dusty Bourassa, Craig VanWagoner, and Basil Wilson ? each had three hits in the win. Hughes drove in four runs, while Ben Gillam scored five runs.
Nick Wesener struck out seven Lake Fenton batters, and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits to pick up the win for the Martians.
Things were a little bit closer in the nightcap, but the Martians still had enough to win the game, scoring two runs in the third inning and three in the fourth inning. Mike Skinner allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits, striking out five to pick up the win for Goodrich.
Goodrich opened the Greater Flint baseball tournament in style May 1, defeating Lapeer East 14-0. The Martians advanced to play Flint Powers in the second round May 8.
A five-run second inning and six-run third inning keyed the Martians? win. Matt Hughes struck out nine to earn the win for the Martians, and also drove in three runs.
Basil Wilson went 3-for-3 at the plate for Goodrich, while Dom Rivera had three RBI.
The Martians continued their winning ways with an April 28 sweep of visiting Bendle, defeating the Tigers 16-2 in the opener and 19-1 in the nightcap.
The Martians banged out 14 hits in the opener, with six Goodrich batters connecting for two hits apiece. Rivera led the fireworks by going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI, while Hughes went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.
Wesener was the winning pitcher, striking out nine in four innings.
Goodrich’s offensive display continued in the nightcap, as the Martians compiled 18 hits. Bourassa went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI, while Hughes went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI and Kirk Elsworth went 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
