Grant for Springfield

Faced with the loss of a $2,000 state grant for trees, Springfield Township Board came up with a new plan.
The Department of Natural Resources grant was originally intended for Dixie Highway and I-75. However, getting state and county permits would have pushed the project to next year. The township would have had to reapply for the grant.
Instead, the township will plant the trees along the driveway to its Civic Center, 12000 Davisburg Road.
‘I’d hate to see us lose out on a grant,? said Supervisor Collin Walls. ‘Planting trees on the Shiawassee Basin property is a good option.?
The township board voted 7-0, Aug. 4, to change the project location. The township will match the grant up to $2,000, which includes volunteer labor and other in-kind contributions.
