Groveland Twp. — On Tuesday the Groveland Board of Trustees voted 4-0 during a special meeting approving a lease agreement for the new township fire station one, for the Michigan State Police portion of the building.
“They (MSP) have models they use for leases (on their buildings),” said Bob DePalma, township supervisor. “We’ve made several small changes.”
The highlights of the 20 year lease for the Michigan State Police in the township owned building include they will pay all utility costs, cleaning services, the contract was modified to include a township constructed building that was not a LEED-certified building. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a global symbol of a building’s environmental performance. The MSP’s buildings are certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.
“The building is not LEED compliant, since it is not cost effective,” he said.
In addition, the lease is for the Michigan State Police only, not any other Michigan State entity.
“If (they) MSP did not provide the police service to us they’d lose the lease,” said DePalma.
Currently, Rose, Holly and Groveland township utilize the Michigan State Police for police coverage.
The Groveland Township Fire Station One and Michigan State Police detachment is located on the site of a former gravel pit on township property in the 7000 block of Grange Hall Road just east of I-75.

Plans for the 14,400 square feet single story building with 7,610 square feet for the fire department and 6,720 feet for the Michigan State Police have been ongoing for the past few years.
The MSP section will include holding cells, an armory, and a shared training\conference. The fire department will include a garage for eight vehicles including ladder truck and EMS units, along with office space.
