He’s a survivor

Corey Elosegui of Lake Orion and his parents Rob Elosegui and Paula Rumbold-Elosegui had a special reason for wanting to take part in the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Strides for Change Walk, held at Canterbury Village on Sept. 24.
On Sept. 24, 1995, Paula was in labor with her second child, and on her way to the hospital when they were hit head on by a drunk driver.
Corey was almost killed, and was in the neonatal intensive care unit overnight due to trauma from the crash.
Paula, a 1991 LOHS graduate, suffered four broken ribs and minor injuries. Rob, a 1988 LOHS grad, had a broken arm, and had to undergo two surgeries on his legs as a result of the accident.
Ten years later from the day of the accident, Corey celebrated his 10th birthday and walked with Paula in the MADD Strides for Change Walk.
Corey raised $150 in pledges for the event, which included 800 walkers.
Paula said Corey is a ‘Great kid, good student and avid hockey player. We are very lucky that he is alive.?
