Hitting the last stroke

The Clarkston swim team finished fourth on Feb. 25 at the OAA division II championships scoring 277 points. West Bloomfield placed first with 391 points followed by Berkley (321) and Rochester Adams (282).
While the Wolves failed to qualify for the State meet, the season was a success in both the swimmers? and their coach’s eyes.
?(Our program) took a giant step forward this season,? said Clarkston Coach Kenwyn Chock. ‘They just had such a good taper. It shows how hard they worked when you look at the drop in their times over the season.?
Clarkston, who came into the OAA meet in last place in the league, set six school records by the end of the competition.
Senior Andrew Riegel recorded three CHS bests: in the 200 freestyle (1:52.03), 500 freestyle (5:06.57) and 200 freestyle medley (1:34.12). Joining Riegel in the relay were sophomore Josh Badgerow and juniors John Wilson and Ryan Kurrle.
Badgerow, Wilson, Kurrle and junior Mike Nelson set a school record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:45.09.
Badgerow also set a new school record of :56.13 in the 100 butterfly. Another individual school record was put up by Nelson with a time of 1:05.99 in the 100 breaststroke.
With a young team and a intensive off-season program starting in two weeks, Coach Chock is pleased with the long term outlook of Clarkston’s boys swim team.
