In state playoff competition there can be only one team left standing in each division.
The Lake Orion Dragons will not be one of those teams in basketball and hockey.
The hockey team was knocked out in a state quarterfinal game by Detroit Jesuit, 5-3.
Jesuit, who Lake Orion Coach Nick Field, said was the best team the Dragons played all season, scored early to put LO in a hole by going up 3-0 in the first period.
Senior Jordan Stross netted the Dragons first goal in the second period. Lake Orion added two more goals in the third period. Connor Moesta got the first tally followed by another score from Jack Chapie to cut Jesuit’s lead to 5-3.
Lake Orion’s icers finished the season with a 18-7-3 record.
The Lake Orion basketball team lost to rival Clarkston, 52-47, in a district semifinal match.
The game was a back-and-forth contest, with Lake Orion jumping to a 9-0 lead to start the game. The Wolves came back and led 13-10 at the end of the quarter and never trailed again.
Lake Orion came within two points once and cut the lead to four in the final quarter but couldn’t overtake the Wolves.
Several three-point field goals kept the Dragons at bay in the second and third quarters.
Lake Orion’s big three of Nate Marcum, John McCarty and David Henry led the way. Henry led LO with 16 points, Marcum had 15 and McCarty 11.
