Hockey team takes care of business against Bloomfield

The overhead speaker at the Detroit Skate Club blasted Bachman Turner Overdrive’s ‘Taking Care of Business,? and that is exactly what the Clarkston hockey team did last Saturday night as they shut out Bloomfield Unified 6-0.
The Wolves remain in first place in the league, three points ahead of Birmingham, with a 6-0-1 record and a 10-1-3 overall record.
Clarkston goalie, Adam Richards, played a strong game by stopping all 18 shots in his first outing of the year. Forward Steve Morin racked up five points.
The Wolves got on the board early as left winger Chris Degen scored from the left circle off a Morin face-off.
Late in the first, Richards kept Bloomfield off the scoreboard by making some key saves. On a rebound, Wolves defenseman Steve Eddy picked up a loose puck and hit Morin at center ice, who skated in and got a shot past goaltender Stephen Curtis to put Clarkston up 2-0 at the first intermission.
Morin added three more goals in the second period. The first came off a rebound from a Matt Prasil shot. The second came on the same shift when Adam Peters set up Morin, who sent a wrist shot past Curtis, for his first natural hat trick of the season.
Morin finished off the second period scoring by sending a shot top shelf from inside the circles to put CHS up 5-0. Eric Paddison and Maverick Erickson assisted.
Degen capped off the Wolves scoring in the third period with his second goal of the night. Trevor Johns and Mike Fogg picked up the assists.
‘Tonight was a good opportunity for the guys that don’t get to play a lot,? coach Bryan Krygier said. ‘I was happy with Richards? play. I was pleased to see him get a shut out in his first game.?
Clarkston returns to the ice Thursday, Jan. 22 against Port Huron Northern at 6 p.m. at Detroit Skate Club. They will meet Birmingham on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the State Fair Grounds in Detroit.
