Notre Dame Marist Academy students raised a total of $662, March 1, in memory of Cathy Ihm of Clarkston in their Dress in Blue Day.
Ihm was active at the school as a parent and volunteer during her fight with colon cancer ? she was diagnosed with colon cancer stage IV in 2007.
Students wore blue in her honor, and collected donations from teachers, staff, and family.
They teamed up with the Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA) to raise funds and promote awareness of the disease, which is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. The students learned colon cancer can be prevented and treated with a healthy lifestyle and regular screenings.
