‘Air Force Airman Jennifer L. Howell graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. She is the daughter of Sheri Howell of Lapeer St., Lake Orion, and William Howell of Karen Parkway, Waterford. Howell graduated in 2010 from Lake Orion High School.

Marine Corps Private David Helberg graduated from basic military training at Parris Island, South Carolina Feb. 12, 2010. He is presently attending the School of Infantry at Camp Lejeune, NC.
Pvt. Helberg completed an intensive 13-week program that involved physical training, academic training, core values, martial arts training, obstacle courses, combat water survival, basic warrior training, rifle marksmanship, field firing range and the ‘Crucible.?
Marine Corps recruits are trained not only physically and mentally, but morally as well. Forming the bedrock of any Marine’s character are the Core Values ? honor, courage and commitment.
David is the son of Roslyn Helberg, of Lake Orion, and a 2009 graduate of Lake Orion High School.

Nicholas J. Krug

Nicholas is the son of Brenda Geigler of, Lake Orion, and Richard Krug, of Elgin, SC, and a 2007 graduate of Lake Orion High School.

Daniel W. Kniveton

Caleb M. Fallon
Air Force Airman Caleb Fallon graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX.

Navy Constructionman Aaron Hollowell, son of Michelle Hollowell, of Oxford, recently began an almost five-month deployment to Afghanistan while assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 133, homeported at Naval Construction Battalion Center, Gulfport, MS.
Hollowell is a 2002 graduate of Lake Orion High School of Lake Orion, Mich. and joined the Navy in May 2007.
NMCB-133’s primary mission on deployment will be providing construction support to improve the living and working quarters for the 30,000 troops needed in Afghanistan.They provide responsive military construction support to Naval, Marine Corps and other forces in military operations; constructs base facilities; and conducts defensive operations.
In times of emergency or disaster, the battalion conducts disaster control and recovery operations, including emergency public works functions.

Navy Reserve Seaman Apprentice Brandon Tereshinski, son of Norman Tereshinski of Clarkston, recently reported for duty at Navy and Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center, Virginia Beach, VA.
Tereshinski is a 2007 graduate of Lake Orion High School and joined the Navy Reserve in October 2009.

Representative Mike Rogers nominated 31 Mid-Michigan students to four US military academies. Academies require a Congressional recommendation for appointment consideration.
Among the nominees was Christian Carrasco, son of Salome and Patricia Carrasco, of Lake Orion. Christian will graduate from Lake Orion High School in 2010. Rogers nominated him to West Point.

Air Force Airman Matthew Wilcox graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX.

Wilcox is the son of Donna Wilcox, of Lapeer, and Michael Wilcox, of Lake Orion. He is a 2007 graduate of Lapeer East High School.

Michael Hurd graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as ‘Operation Warrior Forge,? at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, WA.
He is the son of Jeffrey and Elizabeth Hurd, of Lake Orion.
The 32 days of training provide the best possible professional training and evaluation for all cadets in the aspects of military life, administration and logistical support. Although continued military training and leadership development is included in the curriculum, the primary focus of the course is to develop and evaluate each cadet’s officer potential as a leader by exercising the cadet’s intelligence, common sense, ingenuity and physical stamina. The cadet command assesses each cadet’s performance and progress in officer traits, qualities and professionalism while attending the course.
Cadets in their junior and senior year of college must complete the leadership development course. Upon successful completion of the course, the ROTC program, and graduation from college, cadets are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army, National Guard, or Reserve.

Fred Kline, a Second Class Petty Officer in the US Coast Guard was recently promoted from Third Class Petty Officer on October 1, onboard the Coast Guard Cutter ALDER.
Petty Officer Kline is a native of Lake Orion and has served in the Coast Guard for seven years. He served as a damage control reservist for three years prior to entering active duty. Upon entering active duty, he discovered the damage control rate was at maximum capacity and was forced to choose a different Coast Guard occupation, becoming an operation specialist.
In 2007, the damage control rate became available and Petty Officer Kline switched back to his preferred duty of being a damage controlman. Later that year, he was assigned to the ALDER, where he is primarily responsible for maintaining emergency response equipment, including that related to firefighting and flooding control.
Petty Officer Kline received the Sailor of the Quarter Award for April, May, and June this year for recognition of his outstanding performance. The award is chosen by the crew.

James A. Flynn
Air Force Airman James Flynn, an ?05 LOHS grad, finished military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX.

Air Force Airman James Hafner graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Hafner earned distinction as an honor graduate.
He is the son of James Hafner, of Lake Orion, and Deborah Lake, of Chesterfield.
Hafner is a 2008 graduate of Lake Orion High School.

Colonel Choike, LOHS class of 1977, has served in the United States Marine Corps for 27 years. He just finished a three-year tour of duty as Chief of Staff, Marine Corps Recruiting Command and was selected to be the Commander of Marine Corps Base in Quantico, VA.
Choike is married to his high school sweetheart, the Debbie (Allison) with whom he has three children, Allison, Elizabeth and Daniel.
Choike’s parents, Jim and Pat have resided in Lake Orion for 40 years.

Air Force Airman Kenneth B. Sapnu has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, core values, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training receive credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He is the son of Lucito and Magdalena Sapnu of Atwater St., Lake Orion, Mich.
