Junior Wildcats play at Ford Field

On Oct. 19, the two undefeated JV teams from Oxford, coach Jimmy Bell’s Gold Team and coach Jeff Miller’s Blue Team, met on the high-tech playing surface of Ford Field during halftime of the Lions-Cowboys game for a long-awaited scrimmage.
While waiting in the tunnel, the fifty 8, 9 and 10 year old boys were encouraged with high fives and helmet smacks by Lions quarterback Joey Harrington and his teammates and were told to enter the field. Cheered on by 65,000 enthusiastic fans, the Gold team lined up on the Lion’s 35-yard line and, in the course of 5 minutes, was able to score 2 touchdowns against a very tough Blue defense.
The teams switched sides. During the next 5 minutes, the Blue Offense also scored twice (against a Gold defense which has only allowed one touchdown all season), and began driving for a third score before they were stopped hard.
Both teams ran a no-huddle offense with quarterback audibles and executed flawlessly.
This sets the tone for the biggest weekend of the Hometown Football League and for Commissioner Andy Logan’s Oxford Junior Wildcat football.
In the last two football games ever to be played at the Oxford High School’s Pontiac Street football stadium, both HFL league champs will be established. In the first game, the 6-0 Varsity team from North Branch will meet the 5-1 Oxford Junior Wildcat Varsity team. Coach Logan’s boys have lost only to North Branch this season, so an Oxford win will mean a TIE for the league’s best record at the Varsity level.
In the second game, an Oxford win is guaranteed and the Junior Varsity HFL title will be established when the 6-0 Gold team meets the 6-0 Blue team in one of the most evenly-matched games.
Oxford Junior Wildcat football welcomes all of you to tailgate with us in the parking lot outside the stadium Saturday afternoon and to support our players.
