The Lake Orion JV Hockey team closed out its 2008/2009 season by winning the MIPHL championship game over DeLaSalle on Saturday Feb. 28 at the Great Lakes Sports City Complex in Fraser.
They also took wins over Walled Lake Western, 8-0, on Feb. 22 and Walled Lake Northern 5-3 on Feb. 24, advancing the JV Dragons to the championship game.
The boys took an early one-goal lead at 8:04 of the first period on a powerplay goal.
DeLaSalle tied the game at 13:15 of the second period. The second period ended with the score tied 1-1 as a result of solid defensive play and goaltending at both ends of the ice.

Lake Orion hit the ice with a renewed focus at the start of the third and regained the lead with their second powerplay goal of the game at 6:28. Just 41 seconds later, Dragons made it 3-1 and new the championship was theirs.
An empty net goal at the end of the third sealed the deal and started the celebration of a well-deserved championship.
The Lake Orion JV Hockey team’s 2008/2009 record ended with 17 wins, five losses and two ties. Intense and disciplined team play was the key to their successful season.
