JV football runs table, finishes 9-0

Looking back over the Clarkston junior varsity football team’s 9-0 season, a goal line stand to preserve a 7-6 win over Rochester Adams in their first game of the year was the catalyst.
‘Our kids knew there was something special there after the Adams game,? said JV Coach Doug Colling. ‘They are a good bunch of kids. I enjoyed coaching them.?
Leading up to the final two games of the season, Clarkston dominated their competition throughout the season.
‘We were thumping people pretty good. We were worried about how they would react when they were challenged, but the wins were great for team morale,? said Collings, who relished the opportunity to play second and third string players in games after appreciating their effort everyday in practice.
No undefeated season is ever easy and in the last two weeks of the season Clarkston’s JV football team clawed their way to the finish. On Oct. 15, they eked out a 14-7 victory over Groves to set up a showdown with Lake Orion in the final game of the season on Oct. 20.
At one point in the second half the Wolves found themselves down 21-14.
‘They got sick of seeing what was going on on the field,? said Colling, recounting how his team scored 21 straight points to preserve their undefeated season.
‘They earned it and they deserved it,? said Colling.
