Keep tradition of after-sundown trick-or-treating alive

To the editor:
I recently read that Ortonville’s Halloween hours are set for Oct. 31 at from 6-7 p.m. (‘Ortonville Halloween,? The Citizen, page 4, Oct. 13) I’d imagine that these hours were set similarly to how they were last year (which was a great time as always). However, this year we won’t be setting our clocks back until ‘after? Halloween (Nov. 4) because of the new Daylight Savings Time law. Typically Ortonville’s Trick-or-Treat festivities have taken place just after sundown, making the wonderful jack-o-lanterns and decorations that the Village residents display much brighter and more festive. As I write this letter at 6:30 p.m., I can still see the sun peeking over the treetops. I wanted to point out that this year, the hour between 6 and 7 is definitely still ‘daytime.?
I know that one may argue that the brighter hour will be safer for the kids…I’m just a sucker for tradition and the wonderful spookiness that after-sundown Trick-or-Treat brings to both the young and young at heart!
I hope that we might reconsider a later time, perhaps even 6:30 p.m. or 7 p.m. to start.
