Brandon Twp.- Want to know what students are really talking about?
Ask Scott Terry.
From jammed lockers to plugged toilets to the latest scoop on teachers’Terry’s the man.
Now a day custodian at Brandon Fletcher Intermediate School, Terry, 48, has worked in the district for more than 25 years, including stints in the high school, middle school and Burt Elementary.
Dressed in a clean blue jeans and blue shirt, Scott’s the man that keeps the school of about 700 students clean and in working order. Due to his close interaction with students through the years Scott has come to know hundreds of students by their first name.
‘Students often say ‘hi? when they recognize me outside of school,? said Terry.
‘I love my job. The kids are great, I love to hear them discuss what’s goes on in classrooms. They sometimes make their stories very interesting often quite funny. I’m sure the stories are a little exaggerated, but that makes the stories that much better.?
Arriving each school day morning at about 6 a.m. to open the doors at the Intermediate School, Terry cleans the building until about 8 a.m. when the students invade the school. At mid-morning he sets up the lunch room and helps clean up after the students are done.
During the past years Terry says students are now a little less respectful than in the past, more horseplay a little more vandalism than before. The amount of gum under tables has increased through the years but it’s all part of the job.
‘Most of the kids are great, there’s a lot of kids in this building.?
Terry says often lockers are so full of cloths and ‘kids stuff,? that they bow out at the bottom.
‘It’s amazing how much stuff the can cram in those lockers’but they’re kids.?
