Kickers can’t win, but refuse to lose

Two straight ties have the Wolves soccer team and Coach Annette Richardson hungry for a victory. The latest stalemate, a 2-2 non-decision against Farmington on May 5, was like a mosquito on a summer evening ? annoying.
‘We seem to be the type of team that we can let our guard down one time and the other team will capitalize on it,? said Richardson.
The game against Farmington follows a 1-1 tie in the Wolves previous game against Dondero on April 28, after which Richardson was extremely happy with the way her team competed. The novelty of playing hard and not losing, but not winning, was wearing off after the Farmington game.
‘We were really ready for a win (against Farmington). (The tie) did not feel as good as before,? said Richardson.
Farmington scored the first goal of the match against the Wolves, but Clarkston answered back on a rebound headed into the net by junior Kristen Mercado. The Falcons were able to net the next tally on the scoreboard, but once again Clarkston answered the bell, as Taylor Hosner scored on a penalty kick with 10:00 remaining in the second half.
Richardson feels her team still needs to develop more offensively, but is pleased with the amount of progress the Wolves have made this season.
‘We lost people from last year who could take a game into their own hands offensively,? said Richardson. ‘Our forwards (this year) are starting to come alive.?
Clarkston is 3-5-3 on the season now, but is 1-5-3 in the OAA division II.
?(The OAA division II) is a super tough league. We have one team brought down from division I (Stevenson) and one team should be moved up (Stoney Creek),? said Richardson.
Clarkston’s rematch with Kimball finished too late for this edition of The Clarkston News. The Wolves beat Kimball 2-0 on April 14.
Next up for Clarkston is a revenge game at West Bloomfield. The Wolves lost 3-2 to the Lakers on April 19. Clarkston will play host to Avondale on April 16.
