Kickers move on to regional

The Lake Orion varsity girls soccer team started out the week with a victory over Waterford Kettering on May 31, before defeating Adams to advance to regional competition over the weekend.
Against Kettering in the Division I district opening game, the Dragons won 8-0, with Rachael Isreal and Alex Horton earning two goals each.
Jessica Boyle had three assists for the team, who advanced to 13-7-2. Margaret Verespie and Linsday Luch combined for nine saves in the Dragons? net.
In the semifinals, Lake Orion defeated Waterford Mott, 9-9, to face Adams in the district final. Against Mott, Boyle had two goals and three assists, while Ashley Poirier had two goals. Jenna Hill, Hilary Conklin and Horton had one goal and one assist each for the Lake Orion team.
The Dragons defeated Adams, 5-1, in the district final on June 3.
‘We outlasted Adams 11-1 in the first half,? said Lake Orion coach Ken Snage.
‘Rachel Bemman had one assist and three goals, and Jessica Boyle had one goal and one assist to lead the way for our team.?
Snage said the Dragons? key to the game was leadership from the senior captains, Holli Finneren, Boyle and Shelley Marick.
‘They were not only some of the best players on the field, but also graduated one hour later,? Snage said.
For the Dragons, Isreal had a goal, with Poirier assisting. Snage said the game highlighted his team’s speed on a fast playing field.
‘And toughness in winning the ball in the midfield,? he said. ‘Margaret Verespie was exceptional in the net with six saves.?
The team’s record is 15-7-2 in OAA I. They moved on to regionals in Grand Blanc on June 7.
