Senior Gary Bigger led the Kickers this week as he scored four goals in their three wins.
“He had a great week,” said Clarkston Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Chuck Lawhorn.
Bigger, along with teammates, Ben Snider and Alex Trim scored one goal each in their 3-0 win against Lahser last Thursday. Trim opened the game with the first goal off a penalty kick.
“We had a couple of injuries going in,” said Lawhorn. “We had three starters out. Everyone played really well.We kept the pressure on Lahser the whole game. The guys who came off the bench maintained the intensity and the flow of the game. I was really pleased.”
The boys beat Waterford Kettering on Sept. 25, 5-1. Bigger scored two goals. Joey DeFinis, Ryan Callahan and Jared D’Autremont scored one goal each.
“We were able to use a lot of guys off the bench,” Lawhorn added. “They did a nice job keeping the flow going and playing hard.”
The boys opened the week with a 3-1 win over Lake Orion on Sept. 24.
Bigger, Snider and DeFinis scored one goal each during their win against Lake Orion.
“Lake Orion was a nice start for us,” Lawhorn said.
The Wolves started this week with a game against Rochester Adams on Tuesday. They beat Adams earlier in the season, 3-2.
“It is going to be a tough test for us,” said Lawhorn. “They have definitely improved throughout the season and I expect them to be better than the first time we played them. At the same time we have improved, too. Last week helped to get them in the right mindset and get them playing and have everyone available when you need them. We have a game plan going into the Adams game and it requires intensity and a lot of quick play. “
The boys host Brother Rice on Thursday.
“Brother Rice will be ready to play,” he said. “The guys who played last year felt like we had a good opportunity to come out with a win. They will be looking to get one back from them this year.”
The players aim to remain healthy keep last week’s momentum going into this week. They will also have to keep up their pace of play and keep improving.
“It seems like we are heading into the right direction,” Lawhorn added.
The boys head to Lapeer East on Monday. They are back home next Tuesday in time for their Senior Night as they host Farmington.
“They have a couple of talented players up top,” added Lawhorn. “We will definitely have to keep our eyes on them. They are a solid team. They were moved up from the OAA White division to the Red division. They will battle right to the end. It is an important game for us. We will make sure these guys are ready. We will need our depth and make sure everyone is ready to go.
The home games start with the JV team at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.
