The Oxford Wildcats Varsity Soccer Team fell on more tough times this week, settling for a tie against Linden and dropping a game to Fenton on Sept. 29. Oxford’s record fell to 3-3-3, with 7 games remaining in the season.
Against the Linden Eagles on a rainy Sept. 22, the Wildcats were looking to get back down to business after dropping their previous game to Notre Dame Prep. Despite field conditions, Linden scored the first goal of the game just 18 seconds into the contest.
For the rest of the first half, the Wildcats held their own, and then with 12 minutes to go in the second half, Eddie Summers added a tally for Oxford off a long free kick that found its way past the Linden goaltender. The Wildcats would go on to finish in a tie, despite controlling the play for the remainder of the game.
Against Fenton, Oxford lost a tough one to division foes the Fenton Tigers by a score of 5-2. Fenton opened the game with two quick goals that beat Oxford sophomore goaltender Shane Rhondi, who was playing in his first game of the season.
However, Oxford got the game moving when sophomore Dave Kourtjian scored at 17:36 and captain Keane Kalso added another just 6 minutes later to tie at two apiece. The push would not last long though, as Fenton scored again at 9:08 to give them back the lead. The Tigers scored two more goals in the second half for the win.
Oxford’s game on Sept. 24 against Holly was cancelled, and a make-up game is yet to be scheduled. The Wildcat’s next home game will be Oct. 2nd against Lapeer East, a team the Wildcats tied earlier in the year by a score of 3-3.
