The local organization ‘A Space 2 Dream? made it their first mission to help a 15 year-old boy named Devin when his family was going through a financial crisis.
Last October, the non-profit group decorated his room with symbols of his two favorite sports teams, University of Michigan Wolverines and Miami Heat. A Space to Dream also gave Devin a new queen-size bed to better fit his 6-foot, 2-inch frame.
Surprised and touched, Devin called A Space 2 Dream ‘heroes.?
The group helps children in need with volunteer work to design and decorate their rooms.
Since the group was formed last October, they have decorated three rooms and are planning more for the summer.
Tricia Delude, president and co-founder of AS2D, had been looking for a good way to give back to the community that would combine her love of decorating and her love for children. The result was A Space 2 Dream.
‘The most rewarding part of AS2D is knowing that we’re giving kids a room or an area that they can dream and create and just to let them know that someone is thinking about them,? said Delude.
As far as AS2D has come since October, there is always more to be done to help children in Southeast Michigan says Delude.
‘The biggest challenge has been finding volunteers. We’re always looking for people to come and help out at maybe a networking event or a fundraiser,? Delude said.
