Kids helping kids

‘Kids helping kids? was this year’s theme for Lake Orion’s Brownie Troop 13354 community service project. The troop is made up of 11 seven-year-olds.
At troop meetings the girls discussed how fortunate they all are to be healthy and able-bodied. To start the project the girls compiled cheery, hand-made Halloween cards to be sent along with treat packages to three kids chosen from www.makeachildsmile.com, a Website listing kids with health issues.
A second part of the community service project was registering to participate in The Torch Relay for Children’s Miracle Network. The relay was on Nov. 1 along the Detroit Riverfront.
The troop’s fundraising efforts raised $1,165 via donations for the 5K walk, surpassing the $250 goal. Funds raised will benefit Beaumont’s Children’s Hospital and Beaumont’s Center for Children’s Rehabilitation.
