Monday Knitters at Clarkston United Methodist Church are experts at all types of cold weather clothing like baby caps, sweaters, and mittens, but have specialized in scarves lately.
Sewing since April, they’ve helped knit more than 800 scarves so far, out of a goal of 2,500 for the Scarf Project for Michigan Special Olympics.
Organized locally by Gini Schultz of Clarkston, the project’s deadline is Jan. 15, 2011, for Special Winter Olympics of Michigan, Feb. 2-4 in Traverse City.
“We welcome all to join us ? we meet weekly,” said Christine Wyatt, deacon. “Some here have knit 50 scarves so far and are still knitting.”
Scarves are hand knit or crocheted using a combination of red and teal, the official colors for Special Olympics.
