Oakland County Commissioner L. Brooks Patterson addressed the Clarkston Area Chamber of Commerce on May 19. Patterson spoke about his plan to make wireless internet available across Oakland County. He would like to make the basic level free to use for anyone with access.
Patterson felt wireless internet providers would agree to provide a level of free service in exchange for access to Oakland County’s tornado towers, light poles and traffic lights to which small service boxes could be attached.
‘We would immediately close the digital divide,? said Patterson. ‘We’re giving (the wireless internet providers) something they can’t get.?
