The Lady Wildcats earned their third OAA White Division win on the soccer field with a 2-1 win against Birmingham Groves on April 24.
‘The game wasn’t easy as the Lady Cats went down 1-0 20 minutes in on a win manipulated 40 yard bomb after the Wildcats had missed several crosses near the goal line,? according to Head Coach Robert Euashka.
The score was tied 1-1 after a penalty kick was finished by Karina Parker.
‘It was fitting that Karina finished the penalty kick as it was her ball played into freshman Jade Schramm that created a breakaway that resulted in the penalty kick and a red card to the Groves defender,? Euashka added.
The second half proved to be just as challenging. Oxford maintained a ton of possession but the Falcons packed in the back to protect the tie.
‘Fortunately with 13 minutes to go Christina Medici played a brilliant ball into the corner to freshman Kenzy Eshberger who crossed the ball to newly called up freshman Emma Gordon for the winning goal,? Euashka said.
Oxford moves to 3-4 in a very wide open OAA White race with two away matches this week against Bloomfield on Thursday and Berkley on Friday.
‘The games this week will help shape the division race and Oxford’s chances for the title, which will help shape the division race and Oxford’s chances for the title,? noted Euashka.
