Lady cats beat Rochester but fall to Adams

The Lady Wildcats earned a hard fought 45-34 victory over Rochester High on Feb. 4 with Skye Donaldson leading the charge by playing all 32 minutes and contributing 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
Other strong contributors from Oxford were Samantha Medici with 11 points, including three, three point shots at critical points in the game; and, Jessica Murphy who contributed 10 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.
‘The Rochester game was an extremely physical game,? said Head Coach Steve Emert. ‘The keys to win were rebounding, defensive pressure and composure due to the physical ness of the game.?
Despite the win, the Lady Cats were unable to continue the momentum into the Feb. 7 game against Rochester Adams where they took a 20-43 loss.
Oxford had no answer for Rochester Adams Amber Jamison and Raiven Owusu who combined for 36 of Adams 43 points in defeating the Wildcats 43 ? 20. Adams held Oxford (10 ? 6, 5- 6) scoreless in the first quarter, and rattled off 18 points in the second to take a 26 ? 8 half time lead and never looked back.
Nothing went right for the normally competitive Wildcats as they shot just 17 percent from the field, and 50 percent from the line. Oxford was led by senior Samantha Medici with 11 points and sophomore Grace Wysocki had 5 rebounds.
The keys we needed in the win vs. Rochester we did not perform against Adams,? Emert added.
The Wildcats have three games remaining in their regular season and are hoping they will bounce back. There is a chance the Wildcats will be able to take their revenge against Adams in the district semi-finals as they will face the winner of the Clarkston ? Adams first round match up.
‘The top 3 teams are pretty well determined,? Emert said. ‘And the remainder of the white division teams are fighting for the best finish possible.?
