The Oxford girls varsity basketball team is ready for semi-final play after back-to-back wins this past week against Lake Orion and Farmington.
To kick off the week, Oxford defeated Lake Orion 56-32 on Feb. 18. The Wildcats high pressure defense and fast-paced offense outscored the Dragons in all four quarters and held them to single-digit point totals in three. Oxford was led by Jessica Murphy with 28 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals.?
In her final home game, senior Samantha Medici scored 13 points and had three assists and four steals. Sky Donaldson chipped in 10 points, while guard Cherilyn Banas triggered the offensive outburst by contributing 6 assists and 4 take-aways.
The Lady Cats finished their regular season with a 55-34 win over Farmington on Feb. 20 and a four-game winning streak.
The Wildcats were ready to play from the opening quarter and by halftime had built a commanding 29-16 lead. Oxford’s leading scorers were Samantha Medici with 17 points and Jessica Murphy with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Cherilyn Banas again sparked the offense by contributing 5 assists and 5 steals.?
Oxford ended their regular season with a record of 14 -6 and 8- 6 in the OAA White Division.
‘We have concentrated real hard on finishing our season strong in preparation for our MHSAA district (play). The Lake Orion game and the Farmington games were good wins for us over two well-coached teams,? said Head Coach Steve Emert. ‘The team is looking forward to’our semi-final game versus Clarkston on Wednesday (Feb. 26).?
The game will be played at Clarkston High School beginning at 7 p.m.
