The Ladycat golfers are off to a great start in the 2005 season, jumping out to a 3-0 record (1-0 FML) in the opening week of play.
With the spring break vacation behind them and our Michigan spring weather finally beginning to cooperate, the team was eager to take on Clawson in their first outing of the season at Oxford Hills last Monday. Computing the final score by adding together the team’s top 4 of 6 scorers, the Ladycats (209) proved too much for Clawson (292).
Sophomore Clare Hubbard was the high scorer in the outing, shooting a 49. Senior Beth Hubbard and Junior Karen Offer both shot a 53, and Senior Samara Carroll finished out the night with 54 strokes.
In back-to-back outings, the Ladycats found a more worthy opponent in the non-league match-up at Lincoln Hills Golf Course versus Birmingham Groves last Tuesday. Their winning momentum from the previous night held strong and resulted in another victory for the Ladycats (192) over Groves (238).
Four year varsity golfer Beth Hubbard shot a 44 with Junior Karen Offer following shortly behind with a 46 strokes. Rounding out the teams scoring on the night was Sophomore Christi Schiffman shooting a 50 and Sophomore Clare Hubbard shooting a 52.
For the golfer’s first Flint Metro League match-up versus Ortonville-Brandon, Oxford continued its winning record defeating the Blackhawks at Oxford Hills on Friday.
The consistent play of Captain Beth Hubbard continued as she shot a 46 to end her impressive week of play. Captain Samara Carroll was 4 strokes behind Hubbard shooting a 50, and Karen Offer and Christi Schiffman both shot a 53. The combined score for Oxford totaled 202. The Blackhawks final score was 211.
Six year Head Coach, Terry Kelley, is anticipating the April 11th FML match-up versus Linden. Oxford has placed second in the FML the last four years, all behind Linden who has dominated the league thus far. The outing will be at Linden’s Spring Meadow Golf Course.
