The holidays are nearly upon us and Lake Orion knows how to kick them off in style and in lights.
The annual lighted parade is here again and festivities are expected to be better than ever. The event, which kicks off at 6 p.m. on Dec. 1, is focused on getting everyone in the community. Boy scouts, girl scouts, local businesses and more are invited to get involved.
‘The community has been working really hard,? said Bill Kokenos, this year’s parade group president. ‘We’re going to have six bands, two of which will be middle school, the Lake Orion High School band and a Detroit all-city music marching band and that’s the most bands this parade has ever had.
‘The True Sing, four local young ladies will perform. We’ll have festival singers, Mrs. Claus has sent us a letter to let us know to look for Santa Claus that night and we will also promote the businesses that are open that night. The parade, which is funded by the Holly Jolly Folly (6:30 p.m. on Nov. 30 at Golling Buick GMC), is themed around magic and Broadway this year, so parade guests will get a ‘two in one? according to Kokenos.
The old church on Church Street will host Santa Claus and kids may visit him to tell him what they want for Christmas.
‘This is the way to kick off the year and the holiday season,? said Kokenos. ‘Have a blast at the parade, go shopping and be sure to shop local.?
