Congratulations to two brothers and their coach at Bryant’s Karate in downtown Oxford for their recent championships.
Five-year-old Justin Nowakowski, of Lake Orion, took second place in the six-and-under sparring division and won a six foot Grand Champion trophy for the six-and-under Kata and sparring division.
Nick Nowakowski, six, of Lake Orion, took second place in sparring and second place in forms for the seven- and eight-year-old division. He also took third in weapons and won an equally enormous Grand Champion trophy for the seven to 12-year-old division. Nick is the first competitor in the history of the tournament to win two grand championships in consecutive years. He won the six-and-under title in 2008.
Both boys were competing at the 14th annual Michael Volante Memorial Karate Tournament in Warren. They currently compete in the Michigan Sport Karate Circuit.
Master Jeff Bryant has been teaching the brothers for nearly two years.
