On February 11, Addison Township officials spent $155,000 to close on a 5-acre lot located on Rochester Rd. near the south side of Leonard.
“That’s where we intend to build the replacement Fire Hall #1,” said Fire Chief George Spencer. “It’s an open piece of property right there.”
The property was owned by Linden Harding.
According to Spencer, the township has already hired Schonsheck, from Wixom, to design the new 12,000-square-foot, approximately $1.2 million fire hall. The new structure will have a unique design that fits aesthetically with the Leonard area, plenty of space for trucks and equipment, and available space for 24 hour paramedic staffing.
Officials are planning to hire two more paramedics yet this year and hold a summer build, said Spencer. “We are still aiming for a late fall, early winter occupancy of the building,” he stated.
The current fire hall is located in downtown Leonard. The building was constructed in 1949 and has only about 1,500 square feet of space.
