Time is running out to clean out your basement and garage and get rid of old cans of stain, cleaners, gasoline and pesticides the right way. Residents of the North Oakland Household Hazardous Waste (NO HAZ) communities have one last opportunity to get rid of their household hazardous waste this year.
The final NO HAZ collection of the year will be held on Saturday, (Oct. 4) at the Orion Commerce Center, 315 W. Silverbell Road in Orion Township. The facility is located on the south side of Silverbell, west of M-24.
The collection will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. More than 2,800 residents have participated in the two collections already held this year.
The collection is open to residents of Orion Township, the Village of Lake Orion and Oakland Township, among many others. A full list of participating communities is available at www.nohaz.com.
The NO HAZ program is a free service for residents of member communities; however, donations are accepted. Residents of NO HAZ communities don’t have to register or make an appointment. They simply fill out a registration form for billing back to the individual communities.
The registration form is available at the collection and on the NO HAZ website, where it can be downloaded and filled out ahead of time.
Items collected at the NO HAZ events include: household paints and stains, antifreeze, gasoline, kitchen and bath cleaners and polishes, mercury and mercury thermometers, aerosols, pesticides, herbicides, computer and electronic equipment and more.
For a more comprehensive list of accepted materials, or for additional disposal information, visit the NO HAZ website or call the NO HAZ Hotline at (248)858-5656.
