Clarkston High School student Laura Kupe, 17, was chosen to represent the district in the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. on July 30.
Kupe a senior who is the National Honor Society President and on student council.
‘This will be a powerful experience, enabling me to interact with many prominent men and women whom most of us only read about in the paper and see on television. Attending this program will enable me to develope my leadership skills and reach my career goals,? said Kupe.
Judy Medlin, Clarkston High School counselor, nominated Kupe for the two week conference that a press release said, ‘focuses on instructing and enriching promising students in a hands-on, experimental atmosphere while preparing them for a life time of leadership.?
After high school, Kupe said she would like to attend Michigan University and major in law, political science, or foreign affairs.
She said she would like to be a member of the United Nations someday, but would be just as satisfied with using the skills she learns at the conference to help her own community right here in Clarkston.
‘I plan on exercising the skills I learn, in Clarkston,? said Kupe, ‘I’ll do anything to represent the interest of the people. Any form of representation would be fine.?
Kupe is also nominated to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law, also to be held in Washington D.C., this fall.
