Layla, the three-legged dog featured in last week’s edition, has a home.
The 2-year-old Labrador Retriever mix was adopted by the Earles family, of Oxford, following last week’s Wag, Walk & Run, a fund-raiser for the K-9 Stray Rescue League.
‘She is a wonderful dog and we are so glad she joined our family,? wrote Danielle Earles in an e-mail to the Leader. ‘I just wanted to share the news and let you know that she found a good home and we couldn’t be more thrilled!?
The Earles family chose Layla because she ‘seemed very friendly and good with the kids.?
‘Layla is super sweet, lovable and active and fits right in with our family,? Earles wrote. ‘We are having fun getting to know her and spoiling her with lots of love, attention and cuddles. We couldn’t be happier.?
Layla lost her left front leg after she was thrown from a moving vehicle when she was 8 weeks old. The fall shattered the leg and it had to be amputated.
This is the Earles family’s third rescue dog.
The first one passed away in 2005, but the second one, Kody, adopted in 2003, is still with them. He’s an 11-year-old mixed breed.
‘Layla and Kody get along great,? Earles wrote. ‘We have discovered that Layla loves to play fetch with the tennis ball, which my other dog Kody loves (as well), so we have a lot of fun playing fetch in the yard with them.?
Earles believes rescues are the way to go.
‘We chose to adopt rescue dogs because there are so many dogs out there that deserve loving homes,? Earles wrote. ‘These animals, through no fault of their own, are homeless and just want someone to love them. They deserve a second chance.
‘We have, and will always, adopt from a rescue. We have been so happy with our rescue dogs and couldn’t imagine life without them.?
